Meeting Highlights 2011-12 (Oct-Dec) 2nd QTR
October 5, 2011 – This morning we had the pleasure of having as our guest speaker, Mr. Stewart Bishop. Stewart is running unopposed for Representative of House Dist.#43. Stewart says that the entrepreneurial spirit and a strong family values that run deep in Lafayette along with his long time desire to become involved in politics are just a couple of the reasons he is running. He says that one of his focuses will be on making education effective and available on all levels. We wish him the best of luck!

October 19, 2011 – If you like sports then you would have liked this mornings breakfast as we all enjoyed meeting with and listening to a familiar voice. Lafayette local radio talent Mr. Scott Prather joined us to share his outlook on the sports world. Hopes are high for the Rajun Cajuns this year as they have moved to 6 wins and 1 loss so far as well as the Tigers of LSU who are still undefeated and sit atop the BCS polls. Plenty of Q & A was delivered and all in attendance seemed to enjoy the sports banter.
.
October 26, 2011 – Lafayette Rotary South recently served the Special Olympics over this past weekend. Fellow Rotarin James Boustany organized the event for us and had some great statistics to share with us. He says that 133 1/2 man hours were volunteered by 19 Rotarians! In addition to that, eleven family members of Lafayette South Rotarians pitched in for the cause! I feel like I can speak for my fellow Rotarians when I say that the experience was wonderful and I will surely be involved once again on the next go around. Our guest speaker today was Dr. Jessica Baudoin who is the Director of the Family Tree. This is a foundation that is dedicated to creating a better family life for the people of Acadiana through counseling for those who need it even as young as 5 years old. It is just one of the Family Tree missions to have the WHOLE family involved in the raising of a child. Thank you Dr. Baudoin for your time and efforts on such a worthy cause.

November 2, 2011 – What a pleasure it was to have as our guest speaker this morning Mr. Terry Huval of the Lafayette Utility System. Terry presented a very interesting glimpse into the history of LUS and its humble beginnings in the late 1890's. So much fascinating information was covered in a short period of time, I can only suggest you make the next meeting...you never know what you'll miss!
.
November 9, 2011 – This morning we had the absolute privilege of having as our guest, 8 outstanding students from 4 area high schools. They joined us along with their parents, grandparents and school administrators. We were so pleased to have honored Mr. Jeffery "Konner" Kite and Ms. Rithika Thirumal of Comeaux High, Mr. Tyler Rebowe and Ms. Grace Reaux of Lafayette High, Mr. Joseph LaBruzzo and Ms. Emily Lerille of St. Thomas Moore, Mr. D'Shaie Landor and Ms. Melissa Cavanaugh of Teurlings Catholic High. They were introduced by their class counselors who are Ms. Karen Broussard of Comeaux High, Ms. Dee Piazza of Lafayette High, Ms. Cheryl Fruge' of St. Thomas Moore and Ms. Anna Proctor of Teurlings Catholic High. We should consider ourselves lucky to have students such as these right here in our small part of the country. Outstanding job and good luck in all of your future endeavors!div>

November 23, 2011 – This morning we all came together to fill boxes with turkeys and all the fixings for a delicious Thanksgiving meal. 50 boxes in all were delivered to families around Acadiana that are in need of some assistance. It is our sincere wish that this small gift is able to lift the spirits of these families. That's what belonging to a service organization is all about!
.
November 30, 2011 – We had the honor of meeting as our guest speaker, Dr. Chris Erhardt who is Head of Schools-U.S. Campuses for the Academy of Interactive Studies which is part of the UL Lafayette Continuing Education series. Dr. Erhardt informed us of the schools mission and noted that one of the primary reasons Lafayette was chosen over Baton Rouge is the Fiber system recently installed by LUS. It is with great hope and desire that this kind of positive movement forward continues to strengthen the greater Lafayette area and brings more businesses along with good jobs to our home. Thanks to the good Doctor for his joining us this morning!
.

And lastly we inducted another new member! It is our great pleasure to have Dr. Jessica Baudoin join our ranks! You may recall the Dr. Baudoin was guest speaker not long ago.
