A Message from Ray Klinginsmith, RI President

Building Communities – Bridging Continents

Several Rotarians have asked me how I chose the RI theme for my presidential year, so let me explain. After reviewing all the past themes, I decided to search for a few words that would fulfill two objectives – to give outsiders a glimpse of our purpose, and at the same time to make Rotarians proud of their membership.

I searched for words to describe the passion, the creativity, and the generosity of Rotarians. And as I sought the right words, I kept in mind that Rotary is a spirit of service as well as an organization of Rotary clubs, and that we need to share our core values of service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership with other people and organizations. I considered many words and phrases. The four words I finally selected to convey Rotary’s current mission and highlight our achievements describe what Rotarians do best, which is Building Communities – Bridging Continents.

I hope you agree those four words aptly reflect who we are and what we do as Rotarians. We are a unique organization and certainly one of the best in the world. We build the spirit and resources of our local communities in an important way, and we are a prominent player on the world stage with PolioPlus and our international service projects.

Rotary has changed the world, and Rotarians will continue to change it in a positive way. The formula is simple: For us to succeed, all we need to do is to focus our best efforts on doing what Rotarians are passionate about and what Rotarians are the best in the world at doing, which is Building Communities – Bridging Continents.

A Message from Clarence Prudhomme,
                  District Governor

Fellow Rotarians:

President Ray Klinginsmith has challenged us to be BIGGER, BETTER and BOLDER. There is no doubt in my mind that we can meet this challenge and keep District 6200 as an outstanding district. There is strength in numbers and with all 2500 plus Rotarians working together, we can achieve.

I am looking forward to working with each of you. Please remember, the district is here to help the clubs in any way possible. One of my goals will be to capture what your club is doing and sharing that with all the other clubs in the district.

District 6200 applied to be a Future Vision Pilot District and was one of the 100 districts selected. This puts us in the drivers seat for a new program and an opportunity to show the strength and dedication in each club. Our district will help mold this program and when the other districts come on board, we should be so far ahead of them. Each club must select their Foundations officer and be ready to work with the DRFC on grants.

I am privileged and honored to be the District Governor in the year we should wipe out POLIO. Your monetary support is still required to bring this dreaded disease to an end. I ask that each of you commit to this and continue to support The Rotary Foundation (TRF).

Together, we can BUILD COMMUNITIES – BRIDGE CONTINENTS during this rotary year and set a pace for others to follow. See y’all in New Orleans!

A Message from Brandon Hyde, Club President

August 1, 2011

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as president of our club. I am honored and grateful to be chosen to lead the club this year.

This year’s motto is “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”. The strength and impact of Rotary begins at the club level. As Rotarians, we all have an ability to advance the ideals of Rotary, the choice becomes will we? In the fifteen years that I have been a part of Rotary Lafayette South I have experienced great service to the local and international community.  I am very proud to be a member of this club. I would like to see our club continue and further our visibility in the community. There will always be a need for monetary assistance and as a club, we have and will continue to contribute to many worthwhile programs. However, there is also a need for “hands on” assistance and I hope as a Rotarian you will plan to be a part of the community projects in which the club chooses to participate. There are so many opportunities to practice “Service Above Self”.

The future is in our hands and without each and every one of you Lafayette South and Rotary International cannot have the greatest impact that it can have as an organization. Thank you for everything you do for our club.

Yours in Rotary,

Brandon Hyde
